SKILLS: A Guide to Selling Children Books

    1. Make sure children see the book when their parents are there, graduation, speech and prize giving day arrange with the school to give them commission, show them your prize list and negotiate commission with them. Christmas holidays can have Christmas stories.

2.    Teachers, Instructors and lecturers are the number one people that buy books for their children because they know books. They are easier to convince.

3.    Sell children books in boutique or sell women hair cream, make up and wears in a bookshop that has much of children books.

4.    Books are bought by people who know their importance and not necessary by the rich. Many rich people do not know the importance of books.

5.    Those people who miss the opportunity to go to school but want their children to do so I a prime target for educational book in general and children stories in particular.

6.    Have a santa clause that gives pencil and erasers. You can be the Father Christmas yourself. You may not have a father Christmas and still give Christmas gifts. You may a promo and gifts if it not Christmas The pencil is less than N10.00 and the eraser is less than N5.00. The total is N15.00. Everyone that buy a book will receive a gift so you add N15.00 to the prize of your books. You could have summer promo, end of year promo, New Year promo, New session promo. Black Friday sells.

7.    Arrange with schools to supply them with story books but maintain “close making.” Or else they will collect your money and use it for other purposes. There should either be money or books.

8.    Start a youth reading club in your neighbour for teaching children just how to read You don’t need a teacher just have one of the children read and others follow. The qualification of being in the club is you buy the books that will be read and a registration fees of N1,000.00. The club hold on Saturday 7.00 am to 9.00 pm pr 2.00 to 4.00 pm. I have seen a few of them.

9.    Hire mobile boys. Get the boys trained on story books and persuasion in marketing. The books can buy the book back for a token and you can sell them at half the prize to the poor and still make profit.  If people buy from you tell that if the book is good condition after reading you will buy it back at a half the price.

10.                       Expand branches of your shop and use other methods like arranging with boys scouts to sell first aid and story books.
